Artwork DescriptionFairfield Community Mural. Caroline designed and painted a 408-square-foot mural on the sides of the Emergency Social Services and Neighborhood Box containers and coordinated volunteers to help with the project, which was funded by the City of Victoria, Fairfield Community Association and Emergency Social Services.
Artwork StatementThis mural design was created to celebrate the beauty of the Fairfield neighborhood and how people living here interact with the coastal environment. Simplified line drawings with bright colours were used in order to be appealing to people living in the neighborhood. Also the 'big colouring book' design style was most practical and accessible for volunteer painters. The main goal of this project was to bring together community members to create a public art project that would raise community spirit and pride. The prevention of graffiti is another motivation for this project.
